Is anyone prioritising in the road sector?
This is my road: the Mungwi Road in Lusaka West! It supports a whole bunch of industrial heavyweights such as Zambian Breweries, Pepsi and Wonderful Industries, along with numerous farms and quarries; hence is important to Zambia’s economic development. Yet, everyone is crawling along on a road in serious need of reconstruction. The PF government has just announced that it has spent over $8 billion on infrastructure development, allegedly resulting in a massive transformation of Zambia. However, I will dare to suggest that some of the money could have been better prioritised. Instead of constructing tarmac roads in far-flung corners of Zambia, which would have done just fine with a (maintained) gravel road, the money should have been put into the country’s main arteries first.
