The real battle will take place in two provinces
Welcome to 2016! Welcome to an election year! Now, that we all know that the general election will be held on 11 August 2016, we can look forward to some serious action soon, especially after parliament is dissolved in May. As this election will be very tight, with PF’s Edgar Lungu and UPND’s Hakainde Hichilema snapping at each other’s heels, they will use all means to win the election. However, judging from previous voting patterns, PF’s Edgar Lungu is likely to take Luapula, Northern, Muchinga and Eastern Province, and UPND’s Hakainde Hichilema will take Southern, Western, Northwestern and Central Provinces, while the real battle will take place in Lusaka and Copperbelt Provinces. The urban areas have hitherto voted for the PF, but are currently spilling over with dissatisfied youths with no jobs, money or prospects. The Copperbelt has been particularly hard hit, so keep an eye on this province! It holds the balance of power.
