The Zambia Information and Communication Authority (ZICTA) has stated that it is aware of the on-going global cyber attack (see Fact Box): “ZICTA continues to closely monitor the sector, working with other government agencies to ensure maximum national security”. It encouraged the public to report any problems to ZICTA by calling 7070. Some commentators suggested that Zambia has already been hit, referring to a recent increase in online banking problems for several banks. They also suggested that the attack could have crippled the issuance of road tax at the Road Transport and Safety Agency, but the agency’s problems actually started earlier, and have now been partially solved.
Zambia is also in the process of setting up a cyber security unit with the help of Cyber Security for Governments of Israel with the aim of protecting Zambia against cyber attacks.
