Health Action International (HAI) is the only non-governmental organisation that is entirely dedicated to strengthening medicines policy to improve public health. Based in the Netherlands, HAI works with experts in 70 countries to solve problems linked to the access to and use of medicines. HAI is not our typical charity, but worth mentioning, as it has just received a €460,000 grant to train civil society organisations in Zambia, Kenya and Uganda to collect and analyse snakebite data, and to teach communities how to prevent and treat snakebites. Snakebites are a major – and massively neglected – health challenge in many countries. People, who live in poor rural communities, particularly agricultural workers, herders and children, suffer the greatest burden of snakebites in Africa.
