Parliament has shot down the first motion raised by the opposition. The main opposition UPND party had wanted government to put in place legislation to accelerate the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals, but MPs of the ruling PF party objected, arguing that the amended constitution provides just that. 30 MPs voted for the motion, while 75 voted against. There are a total of 164 MPs in parliament, divided between PF (88), UPND (58), Independent (14) and MMD/FDD (4).
