Opposition MMD party MP Felix Mutati has asked the court to stop his expulsion from the party. Last week, the MMD expelled Mutati for secretly working with the opposition UPND party, after Mutati and other MMD MPs went to court over MMD’s decision to accept an election alliance with the current ruling PF party. The MMD pointed out that Mutati’s stand was clear, as he had appeared on an UPND calendar as a party official. However, the UPND denied ever having printed such a calendar: “Perhaps some enterprising people decided to do so to make money. Honourable Mutati can sue the publisher because the contacts and addresses are on the calendar,” UPND Spokesman Charles Kakoma stated. Mutati explained that the calendar had caused him a lot of damage, and that he had asked his lawyer to deal with the publisher and the UPND.
