Authorities have given the owner of the unfinished Mususu Kalenga Building at the Freedom Way-Katondo Road junction until July 2017 to start working on the 11-storey building, or “we will write to the President to have the building repossessed by government,” Minister of Housing and Infrastructure Development Ronald Chitotela stated. The building has been standing in its current state since the beginning of the 1990s. Construction of the building began in 1984 by the Zambia State Insurance Corporation, but it has since changed hands several times, and is now allegedly owned by the Royal Lutanda Company. Its repossession has been debated – even in parliament – for nearly a decade, but nothing has happened, even though the Lusaka City Council wrote to the Commissioner of Lands several years back to have the building re-possessed.
