One of government’s dredgers, purchased to rid Kafubu River in Ndola of aquatic weeds, has allegedly been parked for years. Copperbelt Minister Bowman Lusambo claimed the machine was “not the correct one”, but the supplier, Jearmy Enterprises, said it had followed tender procedures and specifications. The company suggested that “the staff operating it are not competent, and we have received reports of vandalism”. Apparently, Jearmy had purchased the dredger at K8 million – before the authorities had raised the full amount – and had demanded full payment when the machine was due for service. It has reportedly not moved since then. Lusambo said he would call a meeting.
