Zambia’s long-term development plan – Vision 2030 – envisages that 100% of Zambians have access to clean drinking water, and 90% to improved sanitation, by 2030. Minister of Water Development, Sanitation, and Environmental Protection Lloyd Kaziya stated that this will require $229 million, and additional funding to maintain the services. Nevertheless, the vision looks too ambitious to be realistic, taking the current coverage into consideration: 67.7% of all Zambians had access to clean drinking water in 2015, up from 63.1% in 2010, while 39.7% had access to improved sanitation, up from 32.7% in 2010.
