Zambia Weekly to close?
This week it became official that the Bulletin & Record has closed down. This magazine has otherwise informed, educated and entertained Zambians for five years. It followed in the footsteps of another institution in publishing, the Lusaka Lowdown, which kept a finger on the pulse in Lusaka for decades. Both magazines allegedly closed down for the simple reason that they could not make ends meet in the prevailing economic climate. As expenses increased, their income in the form of advertising dwindled. Zambia Weekly is not so much different. For six years we have provided the best overview of what is really going on in Zambia. However, in 2015 we recorded a margin of K15,300 – before I took out any salary – and this year looks even worse. We are therefore going to use our leave to reconsider our role as a public service provider. We’ll be back on 29 July 2016!
